Planned Giving with Sara Pope, ESQ

The Central Virginia Academy for Nonprofit Excellence welcomes Sara Pope, owner of Sara Pope Law, a nonprofit and estate planning law firm on Friday, February 28, 2025 for a discussion focused on planned giving vehicles. Sara’s presentation will provide valuable information for new nonprofit leadership and development professionals who are eager to learn about ways to diversify and increase philanthropic giving to their organization, and ensure that seasoned nonprofit leadership and development professionals are up to date on changes to tax laws. Through her presentation, Sara will provide valuable guidance for nonprofit and development professionals working with current and potential donors with assets held in trusts. Additionally, Sara will share helpful resources related to planned giving for development professionals to take back to their organizations and share with their colleagues.

Originally from Salisbury, North Carolina, Sara has lived in the Lynchburg area for over 20 years, and graduated from Liberty University School of Law in 2008 and subsequently admitted in the Virginia State Bar as a licensed attorney. She has managed her own law firm, Sara Pope Law, for over 14 years, which focuses exclusively on estate planning, business planning, and nonprofit law. The practice serves clients all over Virginia and has offices in Lynchburg and Charlottesville and was voted “Lynchburg 2023 Top Lawyer” for estate planning. In addition to practicing, she has taught as professor for Liberty University's MBA program and the law school. She currently resides in Amherst County with her husband and three children, ages 10, 8, and 6 and enjoys reading and all things outdoors, including camping, whitewater rafting, and hiking.
